August 2019 - Comprehensive Trip for $5,800

Date Daytime Activity
Day 1 Depart from the United States
Day 2 Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport
Day 3 Rest and Cultural Immersion day. First stop during the day will be at the Money Exchange. Next will be a visit to 2 medical centers and lunch at a local cafe. In the late afternoon your lead mountain guide will check your gear to ensure you are well prepared for Kilimanjaro.
Day 4 Head out from Arusha to the National Parks. Stop in Karatu for lunch. Visit Lake Manyara National Park for a trip through a Tanzanian forest. Lake Manyara is known for its immense elephant herds, tree climbing lions and flocks of thousands of pink flamingos along the lake shore.
Day 5 Morning tour of a traditional Maasai Boma (village). Here you will see how many Maasai live, dress and dance. At your Safari Lodge enjoy a hot lunch and relax by the pool for the afternoon. After dinner you will experience a special treat from Safaris With a Heart with a local Tribal Dance and Acrobatic/Fire Show.
Day 6 Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Ngorongoro Crater. Start out early morning to view the spender of Ngorongoro Crater - one of the wonders of the world. 2,000 foot high crater walls create a very special eco-system. View a plethora of baboons, elephants, lions, wildebeest, antelopes, gazelles, zebras, cape buffalo, hippos. You may even see a sighting of the rhinos! Then return to your lodge mid-afternoon to enjoy the lodge before dinner begins.
Day 7 Tarangeri National Park. Incredible views of the Tarangeri River Valley. Tarangeri is known for great elephant migrations, giraffes, and its Acacia and Boaboa trees. You will also see multitudes of other animals and birds and may even happen upon a sighting of the alusive leopard or even a cheetah before heading back to Arusha City.
Day 8 Early morning drive to Moshi Town near the base of Mount Kilimanjaro. Clothes washing service provided at hotel. Lunch at the Union CafŽ then walking tour of Moshi.
Day 9 Morning departure to Mount Kilimanjaro. Begin endurance ascent through the tropical rain forest via the Umbwe route. Trekkers and crew are nearly alone on this route for the first two days. Then group merges with the other trails mid-mountain at Barranco Camp. Summit is via Stella Point and not the Western Breach. 4 1/2 days up and 1 1/2 days down.
Day 10-12 Continue ascending Mount Kilimanjaro through the Moorland, Heather, and Artic Desert.
Day 13 Begin your summit ascent at midnight, hike through the night for a 6 to 9 a.m. morning summit at Uhuru Peak (19,341'). You are now amongst the summit glaciers and can see down the crater and dormant volcano ash cone. Congratulations! Immediately begin your decent return via Mweka route.
Day 14 Start at Millenium Camp and hike 5-6 hours to the Mweka gate. Meet Roger and take celebratory photos. Short drive back to the hotel through the lush coffee plantations. Afternoon for resting and showering.
Day 15 Breakfast at hotel. Place belongings in the hotel storage by reception. Relax by the pool, update your social media accounts. Await transportation to the Kimanjaro International Airport.
